06/04/2017

London, 7th April, 2017. Loughborough University has chosen the open source Koha library management system and CORAL electronic resource management system to replace its existing Aleph library management solution. PTFS Europe will implement Koha and CORAL and provide on-going hosting and support services. The project also involves further enhancing the integration between Koha and CORAL in a move towards a cost effective unified platform for the management of all library resources.

Koha Library Management System

The Koha library management system is a completely web-based application for both staff and public access. The system comprises core modules: acquisitions with EDI, circulation, cataloguing, serials and comprehensive reporting functionality. Koha integrates easily with other applications such as discovery services, finance, student management and online payment systems. Koha's depth of functionality continues to evolve and expand to meet the changing needs of libraries and their users.

CORAL Electronic Resource Management System

CORAL is an open source Electronic Resources Management System (ERM) consisting of interoperable modules designed around the core components of managing electronic resources. The system can be used to track renewals and cancellations and view usage statistics.

Emma Walton, Director of Library Services at Loughborough said " We are looking forward to working and developing a successful relationship with PTFS Europe in both the implementation and development of Koha and CORAL to provide innovative and improved services to support the learning, teaching and research of Loughborough University. "

Loughborough is one of the country's leading universities, with an international reputation for research that matters, excellence in teaching, strong links with industry, and unrivalled achievement in sport and its underpinning academic disciplines. Loughborough is consistently ranked in the top twenty of UK universities in the Times Higher Education's ‘table of tables' and is in the top 10 in England for research intensity. In recognition of its contribution to the sector, Loughborough has been awarded seven Queen's Anniversary Prizes.

Nick Dimant, Managing Director at PTFS Europe added "We are delighted that Loughborough University has chosen Koha and CORAL. We are particularly pleased that they have recognised the value that comes from adopting and integrating open source solutions. Now that four universities in the UK have chosen Koha and joined our growing community of users, the opportunities for further collaboration and partnership can only increase."
